President Herminie Stop at La Digue Post Office During Inner Islands Tour

President Patrick Herminie visited the La Digue Post Office on Thursday as part of a wider inner islands tour, the Post Office is marking 165 years of uninterrupted postal service in Seychelles. A testament to its importance in connecting the country internationally and locally for decades.

The President interacted with branch manager Leonard Ernesta and his team of three — Aubrey Bibi, Jude Ladouce and Luc Songoire — who together with the Praslin branch handle up to 22,000 items in peak season and contribute to the dispatch of 220,000 postcards annually from across the archipelago. Beyond mail, the branch covers letter and e-commerce deliveries, inter-island mail and a range of everyday services such as printing, photocopying, and laminating that make it a cornerstone of island life.

The presidential visit was one of several stops made during the tour and came as a timely recognition of a small team keeping a 165-year-old institution running on a ferry-dependent island.
