The First Lady of the Republic of Seychelles, Mrs Veronique Herminie, yesterday welcomed the spouses of Chief Justices from across Southern and Eastern Africa for a courtesy call at State House, held on the margins of the Southern and Eastern African Chief Justices’ Forum (SEACJF).
Among those present were Judge Naomi Shivute of Namibia, Mrs Mwiza Malila of Zambia, Mrs Eunice Malaba of Zimbabwe, and Mrs Judy Tirant of Seychelles. The meeting provided a cordial platform for meaningful engagement, centred on shared experiences and initiatives led by the Office of the First Lady, as well as the charitable causes championed by the visiting spouses in their respective countries.
Notably, the representatives from Zambia and Namibia highlighted their involvement in national spouses’ committees, which are actively engaged in programmes aimed at advancing the welfare of women and children. The exchange underscored a mutual commitment to social development and community empowerment across the region.
Discussions also touched on cultural affinities, with particular emphasis on music, cuisine, and shared heritage. The delegates reflected on the natural splendour of their countries, including the iconic Victoria Falls shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe, and extended invitations to the First Lady to visit. In turn, they expressed their appreciation for Seychelles’ well-preserved green spaces and its renowned beaches, noting the country’s strong environmental stewardship.
As a token of appreciation, each guest was presented with a small replica of the giant tortoise, a cherished national symbol featured on the Seychelles’ coat of arms, to commemorate their visit.
In a related engagement, on Thursday 23 April 2026, a delegation of eleven Chief Justices from across Southern and Eastern Africa met with the Vice-President of Seychelles, Mr Sebastien Pillay.
The delegation is in Seychelles to participate in the Southern and Eastern African Chief Justices’ Leadership Forum, taking place from 22 to 24 April 2026.
Held under the theme “Judicial Leadership and Innovation,” the forum convenes senior judicial leaders to examine how innovation and technology can enhance the delivery of justice across the region. It also serves as a platform to foster peer exchange, share practical insights, and strengthen institutional collaboration among participating jurisdictions.
