Emergency Cabinet Committee Update on the Situation in the Middle East

The government of Seychelles has reaffirmed its full control, preparedness, and unwavering commitment to protect the nation as global uncertainties continue to unfold.

Speaking at State House this afternoon, the Vice President Mr. Sebastien Pillay, in his capacity as Vice-Chairperson of the Emergency Cabinet Committee, delivered a strong assurance that decisive actions are being taken across all sectors to safeguard the country’s stability, security, and economic resilience.

The Vice President made clear that Seychelles is not passively observing developments but actively anticipating and responding to potential impacts. He stressed that the government has mobilised a coordinated, whole-of-government response to shield the Seychellois people from external shocks, ensuring that essential services, supply chains, and economic activity remain uninterrupted.

On fuel security, the Seychelles Petroleum Company (SEYPEC) confirmed that current stocks are sufficient to meet domestic demand. Arrangements are already in place for the next scheduled cargo replenishments before the end of March and in early April 2026, which will further consolidate national reserves.

From an economic standpoint, the Seychelles' Central Bank has indicated that the current economic situation remains stable. Foreign reserves continue to be maintained at adequate levels, reflecting the resilience of the country’s financial position. The government remains firmly committed to achieving this year’s projected economic growth and is proactively implementing measures to sustain stability, support economic progress, and safeguard the welfare of the population.

In the tourism sector, the Ministry responsible for Tourism is working closely with industry partners to ensure that Seychelles remains well connected to its key source markets. Efforts are ongoing to facilitate seamless travel access to the destination. In parallel, the Ministry responsible for Civil Aviation is exploring all available options to maintain and strengthen air connectivity, with Air Seychelles playing a central and strategic role in these efforts.

Authorities further noted that tourism demand for Seychelles remains strong. Continuous monitoring of data and market trends is being undertaken to provide timely guidance and targeted support to the sector, with a focus on converting sustained interest into visitor arrivals and ensuring the continued vitality and sustainability of the industry.

On food security, the situation remains stable and manageable. The Cabinet has this week approved the creation of a dedicated Food Security Committee, to comprise representatives from the fisheries and agricultural sectors, as well as the Seychelles Trading Company (STC). The idea is to broaden its composition to include private sector stakeholders. The Committee will be tasked with coordinating strategies to ensure the continued availability of essential food supplies across the country.

Regarding livestock production, current animal feed stocks are sufficient to meet demand for the next five to six weeks. An additional shipment is expected shortly, which will extend supplies for a further two months and reinforce national preparedness.

The government continues to closely monitor global developments and stands ready to implement additional measures as necessary to protect national interests, maintain economic stability, and ensure the continued well-being of the Seychellois people.
