The Republic of Seychelles mourns the passing of celebrated Seychellois saxophonist and accomplished athlete Jean Quatre, whose remarkable talent and enduring passion left an indelible mark on the country’s cultural and sporting landscape.

Mr Quatre was widely admired for his extraordinary musicianship. His artistry resonated not only across Seychelles but far beyond its shores, earning him widespread recognition for the passion and skill he brought to every performance. Throughout his distinguished career, he collaborated with some of the most respected figures in Seychellois music, including Patrick Victor, Simon Amade, Jeny de Letourdie, and the late Golty Farabeau. Through these collaborations and his own performances, Mr Quatre contributed immensely to the richness and evolution of Seychellois music, inspiring audiences and fellow musicians alike.

Beyond music, Mr Quatre was also highly regarded within the sporting community as a gifted long jump athlete. His achievements in athletics included winning gold medals at the 1985 Indian Ocean Island Games (Second Edition), held in Mauritius. In sport, as in music, he demonstrated the same discipline, determination, and commitment that defined his life’s work. Through his accomplishments across both fields, he earned admiration and respect from all spheres of Seychellois society.

President Patrick Herminie has expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, fellow artists, and members of the sporting community who had the honour of knowing and working with Mr Quatre.

In his message of sympathy, the President observed that Mr Quatre’s life was a testament to the power of talent, dedication, and passion. Through his music and his athletic achievements, he brought pride to Seychelles and joy to all who had the privilege of hearing him perform or witnessing his accomplishments.

Mr Quatre’s passing is a profound loss for the nation. Yet his legacy will endure through the melodies he shared, the inspiration he offered to younger generations of musicians and athletes, and the memories treasured by all whose lives he touched.

Jean Quatre will be remembered as one of the remarkable figures who helped shape the soul and spirit of Seychellois culture through both music and sport. His talent, humility, and dedication will not be forgotten.
