Seychelles Lost a Political Legend: Hon. Charles de Commarmond, a Pillar of National Progress and Democracy

State House has received with profound sorrow the news of the passing of Hon. Charles de Commarmond, a distinguished former Member of the National Assembly, who passed away earlier today.

Today, the nation of Seychelles mourns the loss of a true political legend, whose unwavering dedication and visionary leadership have profoundly shaped our country for decades. A steadfast servant of the Seychellois people, his legacy of resilience, integrity, and commitment to development will be etched forever in our history.

Hon. de Commarmond was also a personal and close friend of the President of the Republic Dr. Patrick Herminie, and his tireless fight for justice for his constituents exemplified his deep commitment to fairness and equality. His resilience and pursuit of justice for the people he represented remain an inspiring testament to his character.

President Herminie, led the nation in paying tribute to an esteemed legislator and expressed his deep personal grief at the loss of a dedicated servant of the Seychellois people.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hon. Charles de Commarmond,” President Herminie stated. “Charlie was not only a respected colleague but also a dear friend. A Long and Dedicated Service to the Nation 

Hon. Charles de Commarmond served the people of Seychelles with distinction over a career spanning several decades. He was a member of the National Assembly during the one-party state era from 1983 to 1987, again from 1991 to part of 1993, and from the inauguration of the Third Republic in 1993 until his retirement in 2020. As the elected representative for Cascade, he was renowned for his significant achievements, particularly in advancing infrastructure development within his district.
