Today, the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) commemorated its annual Defence Forces Day at the Military Training and Support Centre in Perseverance. The event was attended by President of the Republic and Commander in Chief, Dr. Patrick Herminie, who delivered an address emphasizing the vital role of the armed forces in safeguarding national sovereignty and regional stability.
Under the theme "Striving for Excellence in Unity and Peace," Major General Michael Rosette shared his thoughts on this year's focus. He explained that the theme captures the true spirit of the Defence Forces, emphasizing that excellence is not just an aspiration but a fundamental standard. Achieving this standard requires discipline, sacrifices, and professionalism across land, sea, and air operations, all working together to promote unity and peace.
In his address, President Herminie underscored the significance of maintaining a robust, disciplined, and modern defence force capable of responding to evolving security challenges. He praised the force’s remarkable development over the years into a recognized and adaptable institution, capable of addressing both traditional and emerging threats. The President also emphasized the importance of equipping the SDF with modern resources and technology to enhance operational efficiency. He took this occasion to commend the dedication and sacrifices of both current personnel and veterans, whose efforts are instrumental in ensuring peace, stability, and security throughout the country.
During the ceremony, President Herminie and Major General Rosette honored five officers for their long-standing service, awarding medals and certificates to those with 35 and 40 years of dedication. Among those recognized was Mr. Jean Belle, serving as Warrant Officer Class 1, who proudly received acknowledgment for his outstanding 40 years of service. An additional group of 14 officers, with service lengths between 25 and 30 years, was also recognized for their commitment.
These awards reflect the remarkable dedication and loyalty of Seychelles Defence Force personnel, whose unwavering service continues to strengthen the resilience and professionalism of the force. The President expressed his deep appreciation for their sacrifices, emphasizing that their commitment is fundamental to maintaining the nation’s peace and security.
The event is part of a series of activities organized by the Seychelles Defence Forces from 22nd and 29th November, 2025. These activities are designed to promote national unity, strengthen professionalism, and improve the capabilities of the Defence Forces.
