New Danish Ambassador Presents Credentials to President Ramkalawan

His Excellency Mr. Stephan Schonemann, the newly appointed Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Seychelles, formally presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan during an accreditation ceremony at State House yesterday morning.

Welcoming Ambassador Schonemann, President Ramkalawan reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Seychelles and Denmark, highlighting their successful cooperation in the maritime sector. He expressed optimism about expanding collaboration into new areas of mutual interest.

Discussions during the meeting covered key topics, including climate change, maritime security, and tourism. President Ramkalawan also extended his warm regards to His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark, acknowledging the greetings conveyed through the Ambassador.

Speaking to the press, Ambassador Schonemann expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and outlined the constructive dialogue he had with the President. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening existing partnerships, particularly in energy and climate initiatives, throughout his tenure.

Following the credential presentation, Ambassador Schonemann paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ahmed Afif. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, he succeeds H.E. Mr. Ole Thonke, who had served as Denmark’s Ambassador to Seychelles since April 20, 2021.

The ceremony was attended by Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Vivienne Fock-Tave, Director General of the Bilateral Affairs Division Ms. Lindy Ernesta, Director of Bilateral Affairs Ms. Wendy Isnard, and Third Secretary of the Bilateral Affairs Division Mr. James Carpin.
