Cabinet Business - Wednesday 19th April 2023

President Wavel Ramkalawan, chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet yesterday, Wednesday 19th April in which a number of policy memoranda were approved.

Cabinet approved the new policy for Vulnerable Housing Repair and Improvement Scheme.The aim of the Scheme is to provide support to vulnerable groups of society who cannot afford to raise funds to repair, maintain or do small construction to an existing dwelling to improve their living conditions.  The policy sets out the criteria and condition for accessing support under the Scheme.

Cabinet was briefed on the Nation’s health and health services.  The presentation which included updates on the Health-in-All-Policies approach; Non-Communicable Diseases; Health security; Substance Abuse and services; and health system and health services revealed that the social determinants of health play a very important role in the state of health of the people.  Cabinet was also briefed on the key priorities to improve both the health services and the health of the Nation.  Cabinet raised concerns about the health analysis presented and requested that an integrated approach is used to action on the priorities with the aim of changing people’s behaviour in order to improve the state of health of the Nation.

Cabinet also approved for Seychelles to host the 19th Annual Indian Ocean Colloquium on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and Addictology from 13-15 November, 2023.
