Message by President Wavel Ramkalawan on the occasion of Naw-Ruz

On the joyous occasion of Naw-Rúz, I convey my warmest greetings and good wishes to all Baháʼís in Seychelles and around the world as they celebrate their New-Year. This occasion marks the end of the 19 days of fasting for the Baha’is, and symbolizes the arrival of spring, a time of new beginnings and of renewal.

The emphasis the Bahá'í community places on the importance of interfaith activities and tackling prejudice and bigotry demonstrates its commitment to the principle of equality for all - a conviction which is shared and actively pursued by this Government. Your endeavours to bring about love, peace and harmony through the teachings of the Baha’i Faith, as well as your endeavours towards the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, are well appreciated and commended.

This also brings to mind the plight of your brethren elsewhere who, unfortunately, do not share the same freedom to express their religious beliefs and practices. We hope that one day this will end.

Wishing you all joyous celebrations and a very Happy Naw-Ruz.
