President hosts gathering in honour of Seychellois Athletes at State House

President Wavel Ramkalawan hosted a special gathering this afternoon at State House in honour of a group of Seychellois athletes who recently represented Seychelles in various international championships recently. The athletes present included swimmers, boxers and weight-lighters accompanied by their respective coaches and Chairpersons of Federations. Also present was the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Mrs Marie-Celine Zialor, the Principal Secretary for Sports, Mr Ralph Jean-Louis and the Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC), Mr Jean Larue.

Addressing the athletes, the President congratulated them for making Seychelles proud and for ensuring they give their absolute best during their various competitions. “ I know when you step out there, in whichever sport you are doing, you are all giving your very best to raise our island Seychelles and our flag higher. Today on behalf of the country I would like to congratulate and thank you all for your determination and for bringing back such outstanding results. Keep persevering and keep training hard. I follow very closely all your progress and would like to once again reiterate the government’s full support to all our athletes” said President Ramkalawan.

The President also commended the Sports Ministry and the NSC as they continue to do their utmost for the advancement of sports in Seychelles and for the welfare of athletes amidst numerous challenges.

On behalf of all the athletes present, swimmer Ms Therese Soukup expressed their appreciation and honour to be hosted at State House by the President. She also conveyed special thanks for all their coaches, team mates and families for their unwavering support during training as well as while attending the competitions.

The gathering was also an opportunity for the athletes to interact with the Head of State by sharing their experiences and plans for the future.
