Cabinet Business- Wednesday 2nd February 2022

President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 2nd February at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet considered a proposal to commercialize erotic products in the country. Cabinet requested that public consultations should be undertaken on the subject. The public and media are invited to discuss and make their views known on whether the commercialization of erotic products should be done online, through a physical shop or through pharmacies. Cabinet has gave a timeframe of 3 months for the consultations to take place.

Cabinet approved amendments to the Road Transport Regulations (Windscreens and windows of motor vehicles to be clear) (Amendment), 2022. This regulation will provide clarity in the use of tints on windscreens and windows.

Cabinet approved for the drafting of the Merchant Shipping (Marine Accident Reporting and Safety Investigation) Regulations, 2021. This is in line with regulating the performance of the functions of the Marine Investigation Board under Section 227 of the Merchant Shipping Act.

Cabinet also approved the revised landfill fees under the Fourth Schedule of the Environment Protection (Waste Services Regulations) 2021. The new revised landfill fees will come into force on 1st April 2022.

Cabinet approved for the revision and update of the 2009 Airport Masterplan using updated transport statistics, and trends and developments in the local and global aviation industry to guide changes.
