Cabinet Business - Wednesday, 29th September 2021

President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 29th September, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved the Cybercrimes and Other Related Crimes Bill, 2021 to replace the Computer Misuse Act, 1998.  Once the Bill is published, the public will be encouraged to engage with their MNAs to give their input on the content of the Bill.

In view of ongoing financial constraints, Cabinet approvedto suspend the current legal requirement for the 13th month pay for 2021. 

A Performance Based Bonus Scheme will be developed to be adopted nationally in 2022 for all workers in both the private and public sectors. 

Cabinet approved the Teacher’s Council Regulations 2021.  The primary purpose of these Regulations is to provide a legal framework to regulate and contribute to the improvement of standards in the teaching profession, for the benefit of both teachers and learners.

Cabinet approved amendments to Section 45 of the Access to Information Act.   Amendments make provision for the employment conditions of the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners.

Cabinet was briefedon the Calendar of Activities for Habitat Week which will take place between 4th and 8th October 2021.

Cabinet was also briefed on the programme for Teachers’ Week 2021 which will take place between 3rd and 8th October 2021.
