President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a special meeting with the Board of Directors of Air Seychelles this morning at State House. The meeting stems from the recent petition filed by APEX Corporate Trustees (UK) before the Supreme Court of Seychelles to declare the National carrier, Air Seychelles insolvent and to wind up its operations.
The objective of the meeting was to openly discuss and chart the way forward in the interest of all the parties involved, primarily in reassuring the Board of the Directors of the Government’s commitment to the airline and its unwavering support to the employees of Air Seychelles throughout this process.
Following discussions, the President has also given instructions for the creation of a new High level committee led by the Designated Minister, Mr Jean-Francois Ferrari, the Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Mr Naadir Hassan, the Minister for Transport, Mr Antony Derjacques and four Directors nominated by the Board of Air Seychelles. The committee has been tasked to undertake further discussions with the representatives of the Bond Holders; APEX Corporate Trustees (UK).
Speaking to the press on behalf of Government, the Minister for Transport, Mr Antony Derjaques further reiterated that employment security and the continued commercial viability of the National Airline remains top priority for Government. He also reassured all stakeholders that during this process all airport services and operations shall remain uninterrupted.
On behalf of the airline, the Chairperson of the Board of Air Seychelles Ms Veronique Laporte expressed her gratitude to Government for taking the time to engage in lengthy consultation with the Board and for their commitment in resolving the matter in the interest of the national carrier and its dedicated team of staff.
Present for the meeting at State House this morning was the Vice-President, Mr Ahmed Afif, the Designated Minister, Mr Jean-Francois Ferrari, the Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Mr Naadir Hassan, the Minister for Transport, Mr Antony Derjacques, the Chairperson of the Board of Air Seychelles, Ms Veronique Laporte and other Directors of the Board, Mr Sandy Benoiton, Mr Tyrian Gendron, Mr Ralph Saminadin, Ms Irene Croisee, Mrs Daphne Hoareau, Mr Alan Masons and Mr Egbert Laurence.
