President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday 6th January at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.
Cabinet approved and endorsed the final amendments to the Nature Reserves and Conservancy Bill, 2020.
Cabinet also approved for the drafting of the Trade in Wild Fauna and Flora Bill, 2020. The Billwould allow for the protection of specified wild animal and flora, and would prohibit the capture, possession or trade in these species. Cabinet approved theRegulations in respect ofthe Giant Bronze Gecko and the Seychelles Tiger Chameleon.
Cabinet approved for additional Amendments to the Regulations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Act, 2020. The new amendments will provide for the procedures under which Non Profit Organisations would need to comply to be registered in Seychelles under the Administration and Supervision of the Financial Intelligence Unit.
Cabinet considered recommendations made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment concerning the undertaking of a comprehensive socio economic impact and biodiversity assessment in regards to new sites for the establishment of granite quarry in the country.
