The State of the Nation presents a unique opportunity for the President of the Republic to report on what has been achieved together with citizens over the past year, and to provide his leadership and vision on the direction the country should take in the next. It is more than an address to the National Assembly, but a conversation with you – Seychellois citizens.
This year, President Faure examines the social ills affecting our communities, and presents decisive measures to address them. He highlights what the Government has done and continues to do to alleviate national challenges such as the cost of living, poverty, and housing. He offers concrete proposals to secure growth and build new ladders of opportunity, particularly for young people.
President Faure shows that Seychelles continues to develop and grow economically, despite a volatile international environment. The macroeconomic outlook is strong. He presents the major infrastructural projects that will secure the country’s future development and support economic diversification over the next decade. He also discusses actions to preserve internal security, uphold law and order in the country, and maintain national maritime security.
It is citizens that will ensure this upward trajectory of growth. Seychelles as a nation remains strong, and to consolidate this strength, national unity is key – united in the belief that Seychelles is bigger than us all. He captures the important idea that this country progresses when we accept certain obligations to one another, and to future generations.
This year’s State of the Nation Address will be aired live on SBC and the State House website next Tuesday 26 February 2019, from 5pm.
