Following the retirement of Mr Reginald Elizabeth as Commissioner of Police, the President has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, nominating Mr Kishnan Labonte as the new Commissioner of Police. In accordance with Article 160 (1) of the Constitution, the appointment of the Commissioner of Police must be made with the approval of the National Assembly.
Mr Labonte is currently the Chief Office of the National Drug Enforcement Agency. He has 27 years previous experience in the Police Force, having served for 8 years as Assistant Commissioner. He also has seven years experience as Magistrate.
