President Danny Faure visited two sites on Praslin and Curieuse islands yesterday to view prospective locations for redevelopment projects.
The President's visit to the two islands follows a recent meeting held at State House where President Faure met with members of the Praslin Business Association to discuss challenges and ways to reinvigorate the business landscape for the aforementioned islands.
The visit to Praslin included the viewing of the proposed road link between La Plaine Hollandaise and Pasquère which is expected to increase road connectivity by providing an alternative route and boost economic activities on the island. Following the viewing of the site and discussions held with all relevant authorities present, the President affirmed the Government's support for such a project and committed the allocation of the necessary funds for its implementation before the end of this year.
The second site visited by the President and his delegation was Curieuse Island, to view the current status of the island, existing facilities available and identify the most suitable sites for three proposed projects; a road, a sea turtle research centre and a restaurant. The proposed projects are being discussed with all the relevant stakeholders to ensure the country can maximize revenue generated through more activities on Curieuse island, ensuring the involvement of both the Government and the Praslin private sector.
President Faure emphasised that despite the efforts to enhance the economic landscape, considerations of all proposed projects for both islands will need to be conceptualised within the parameters of sustainability to ensure conservation and environmental factors are considered.
Part of the Presidential Delegation for the visit was Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Mr Charles Bastienne, Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Mr Didier Dogley, Member of National Assembly for Grand Anse Praslin, Hon Wavel Woodcock, Member of National Assembly for Baie St Anne Praslin, Hon.
