Two New Members of the Electoral Commission Sworn in

The President of the Republic, President Danny Faure, witnessed the swearing-in of two new members of the Electoral Commission of Seychelles, Mrs Luciana Lagrenade and Mrs Veronique Bonnelame-Alcindor, during a swearing-in ceremony held at State House this morning.

The appointment of Mrs  Lagrenade and Mrs  Bonnelame-Alcindor have been made possible through the 8th Amendment of the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles, which was approved by the National Assembly on 7 April 2017. The Amendment to Article 115 (a) of the Constitution changed the composition of the Electoral Commission from five to seven members.

President Faure made the appointments of the two new additional members of the commission from candidates proposed by the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA) as prescribed in the Constitution. The Leader of the Opposition was also consulted prior to the appointments in view of the prevailing spirit of transparency and co-habitation.

During the ceremony, the two newly appointed Commissioners both took the Oath of Allegiance and the Official Oath.

Also present for the swearing-in ceremony was Designated Minister Mrs Macsuzy Mondon, members of the Constitutional Appointments Authority, members of the Electoral Commission of Seychelles, Secretaries of State, and family members of the two appointees and other distinguished guests.
