President James Michel met with Major General Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria at State House this morning. Former President Obasanjo will be participating in African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in the annual general meeting (AGM) to be held in Seychelles on Saturday 23rd July 2016.
President Michel expressed his appreciation for Afreximbank’s support in a number of projects in Seychelles and former President Obasanjo’s attendance to the Bank’s AGM. “Afreximbank’s is an appropriate vehicle in the promotion of development in Africa. Your presence will give added and valuable visibility to [Afreximbank’s] meeting.” said President Michel.
For his part, former President Obasanjo commended President Michel for the successful work done in the economic development of Seychelles and the “quiet progress” of the country. He thanked the President for hosting the Afreximbank’s AGM in Seychelles. Discussions also addressed the economic development prospects of Africa as well as the healthy bilateral relationship between Seychelles and Nigeria during the former Nigerian president’s tenure, a relationship which is now continuing.
In an interview with the national press, former President Obasanjo stated that Afreximbank’s meetings will put the limelight on Seychelles as a potential country for investors in Africa. “You cannot have a better means of showcasing what this country is doing and attract investments”.
Also present at the meeting this morning were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan, the Governor of Central Bank of Seychelles, Ms. Caroline Abel and the President's Diplomatic Adviser, Ambassador Callixte D'Offay.
