President James Michel attended the launching of the Inner Islands Agricultural and Horticultural show being held at L’Union Estate, La Digue today, under the theme 'Zil Pros An Mouvman'. The show has been organised to mark the Constitution Day by the National Day Celebration Committee in collaboration with the Inner Islands Committee.
Following the opening of the show by the Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture, Mr. Wallace Cosgrow, President Michel who was accompanied by Vice President Danny Faure both had the honour to plant a tree at L’Union Estate to mark the occasion. The President then toured the different exhibits which portrayed what the inner islands has to offer, filled with talents in agriculture, arts and crafts, flowers arrangements, rearing of animals, planting among others.
The President has described the two days exhibition as interesting which showcases participants from different sectors and talents of the Praslinois and Digoises whereby they are showing their efforts in developing entrepreneurship.
In his remarks to officially launch the show, the Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture, Mr. Wallace Cosgrow highlighted how proud the Digois must be to organize such events on behalf of the Inner Islands as they prepare to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Independence. He also reiterated the support from the government for small to medium sized businesses.
His speech was followed by tolling of the bell by Digoises, Jimmy Mellon and blowing of the conch shell by Antoine Jeanne.
