President James Michel has appointed Ms Jessica Dorothy Kerr as a Magistrate, her appointment takes effect today, Friday 1 April, 2016.
Jessica Kerr comes from New Zealand but she has been residing in Seychelles since 2013. Prior to her appointment as Magistrate, she had been working as the Executive Assistant to the former Chief Justice, as the legal advisor to the FIU and as a part-time lecturer at the University of Seychelles in Bar Vocational Courses. She is also the coordinator and Board member of the Seychelles Legal Information Institute.
Jessica holds a Master of Laws from the University of Yale. She was admitted to legal practice in New Zealand in 2007 and completed her postgraduate study in the United States.
She has practiced as a barrister and solicitor at every level of the New Zealand court system from civil, criminal and constitutional proceedings, specialising in work directly with the Queen’s Counsel.
