President Announces New Heads Of Four National Bodies

March 27, 2013 -- President James A Michel today announced new managing directors and chief executive officer to head the Seychelles Trading Corporation (STC), the Development Bank of Seychelles (DBS), the Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA) and the Fair Trading Commission (FTC).

Ms Veronique Laporte is the new managing director of STC. She replaces Mr Patrick Vel whose contract has ended. Ms Laporte was until recently the principal secretary in the Ministry of Health. She has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources and a Masters Degree in business.

She has also been appointed the new chairperson of the Société Seychelloise d’Investissements (SSI), the agency which manages government shares in enterprises. She replaces Dr Steve Fanny on the SSI board.

The acting  managing director of DBS is Ms Annie Vidot.  She has been employed at DBS for the last 18 years and has served as deputy CEO since 2009. She holds a Master’s degree in Leadership & Strategy.

The outgoing MD of DBS, Mr Roger Toussaint, will be taking up an advisory post in the Ministry of Finance, Trade and Investment.

Mr Daniel Gappy who was the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Trading Commission becomes the new managing director of the SLA. He replaces Mrs Maryse Berlouis who will occupy a new position as Special Advisor in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Industry where she will be responsible for the setting up of an agency to oversee industrial properties.

Mr George Tirant takes over from Mr Gappy as the acting CEO of the FTC. He has a degree in theology.  He was the director of consumer affairs at FTC since 2011 and had earlier served as director of insurance supervision at the Central Bank of Seychelles.
These appointments take effect immediately.
