President Michel Congratulates Chinese Leadership

President James Michel has extended the heartfelt congratulations of the people of Seychelles to the new President of People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, also the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
In a letter sent to the President elect following the successful conclusion of the 18th National Congress of the CPC, President Michel applauded the coming to power of the fifth generation of Chinese leadership which he described as demonstrative of the “spirit of dynamism and harmony that drives China forward”.

“I am pleased to point out that your confirmation to this most powerful post comes at a time when the relationship between our two countries continues to flourish, and I am confident that under your leadership, we will have the opportunity to build even further on this excellent platform. The various past high level exchanges of visits have contributed immeasurably towards the furtherance of the special rapport that exists between my country, one of the smallest on the planet, and yours, which is one of the world’s largest,” said the President.

In addition to congratulating the incoming President, President Michel has sent a letter to President Hu Jintao commending the leader for the gains made by China under his leadership:

“In 10 years, the People’s Republic of China has grown to become the second largest economy in the world- and a decisive leader in terms of global governance.

“Your leadership, and your vision, for China are the cornerstones of this success.”

The President added that, in Seychelles “these last ten years have seen many concrete examples of our deep and strong friendship: the new National Assembly building, new schools, and new clinics to name but a few.

“You personally contributed to the excellent ties existing between your country and mine. Your landmark State visit to Seychelles in February 2007 is a perfect illustration of the high esteem a big country like China has for a small state like Seychelles.  Your trip led to the expansion of our bilateral relations to every sphere, from politics to economic through defence.”

President Michel concluded by expressing his gratitude to President Hu Jintao for China’s active approach to Seychelles-China bilateral relations, and extending his commitment to building on these successful relations with China’s President elect, Mr. Xi Jinping.
