President Michel Visits The Mont Fleuri District

President James Michel visited several areas of the Mont Fleuri district today, as part of his ongoing programme of visit in communities.

The President was accompanied by the Minister for Land Use and Habitat, Mr. Christian Lionnet, Member of the National Assembly for Mont Fleuri, Honourable Begitta Jeannevol, the District Administrator for Mont Fleuri, Flavie Laporte, the Principal Secretary for Presidential Affairs, Mrs. Lise Bastienne, the Principal Secretary for Community Development and Sports Mr. Denis Rose and other officials from the President’s Office.

It was also an opportunity for the district’s representatives to have discussions with the President on matters that revolves around the Mont Fleuri district, current challenges and other on-going housing as well as infrastructure projects.

The delegation visited the Mont Fleuri Day Care that is being run by Ms. Stella Marie on a rental basis. They also managed to visit several homes including two elderly persons who have benefitted from funds from the District Small Projects with a low income house being funded by the Community and Sports Department. They were briefed on the re-development project at Corgate Estate which is being implemented in several phases and the Rideau Road, Forêt Noire, where the first phase has been completed.

“It is a priority for the Ministry of Land Use and Housing to eradicate these old houses and under the fund being given by the People’s Republic of China we have designed a five year plan to complete the housing project at Corgate Estate, which should be finished in even less time than expected,” explained Minister Lionnet.

President Michel and his delegation concluded their visit at the Kan Tobruk Housing Estate whereby they met with Mr. Elvis Renaud, a young father who uses available space to grow crops namely bananas, pumpkins papaya and share its harvest with other residents of the estate. He also met Mr. Michel Rouccou, who has  contributed immensely towards the promotion of community life at Kan Tobruk Housing Estate.

“I am very happy with the visit conducted today. It has given me an opportunity to meet many people especially the elderly. I have been briefed of the constraints as well as the success of the Mont Fleuri district. It was an opportunity to discuss its ongoing projects in order to make sure that its implemented and that the residents of Mont Fleuri continue to benefit in the national development being done by the government for the population of Seychelles,” said President Michel after his visit.
