A traditional flag-raising  ceremony at the  Indian High Commission in Victoria yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of India's Independence Day.

President James Michel conveyed greetings and the  warm wishes of the people and government of Seychelles to President Prathiba Devisingh Patil of India.

The President thanked the government of India for its enduring support for Seychelles.

"India has been a most committed partner overall and has in the last few years been consistent in helping us in the fight against piracy in the Indian Ocean.

"The government of Seychelles anticipates the continuation of successful collaborations and hopes that the excellent ties between our two nations based on mutual friendship, respect and understanding prolong," President Michel said in his message of congratulations to President Patil.
