March 18, 2010 -- President James Michel's ruling Parti Lepep is organizing a three-day conference this weekend at the International Conference Centre and Maison du Peuple.
The theme of the conference is The Winning Party for the Future. Some 1,000 party activists and supporters are expected at the conference.
Parti Lepep's executive director Marie-Antoinette Rose said the conference will be a historically important event as it puts into practice one of the recommendations made by last June's party congress. She said that among the aims of the conference is to seek the views of the people on how the party is run.
She added that the conference will be a big internal democratic exercise as it will be a chance to look at policy issues and have in-depth talks on how to improve its functions.
