It is with deep sadness that I have learned of the passing of Emmanuel Marie, one of Seychelles’ most beloved and enduring musical talents.
Emmanuel Marie, fondly known to many as “Mr Music,” dedicated his life to his craft, beginning his musical journey at a young age and going on to represent Seychelles across the world with passion and pride. Over the years, he became a household name, not only for his distinctive voice and stage presence, but for his ability to connect deeply with audiences through songs that spoke of love, life, and the Seychellois spirit.
A gifted and versatile artist, Marie’s music transcended languages and genres, reflecting both the richness of our Creole identity and the openness of our people to the world. His body of work, including well-loved songs that remain part of our cultural soundscape today, has earned him national recognition and the admiration of generations. His contribution to the evolution and promotion of Creole music will remain a lasting part of our national heritage.
Throughout his life’s journey, Marie has continued to inspire those around him, demonstrating that while circumstances may change, passion and purpose endure. His journey was one of resilience, a powerful reminder that his voice, spirit, and legacy could never be diminished.
Those who knew Marie will remember not only the artist, but the man, warm, grounded, and deeply connected to his roots. Through his music, he told the story of Seychelles; its people, its rhythm, its soul, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on in every note played and every lyric remembered.
Today, Seychelles mourns not only a musician, but a cultural ambassador, a storyteller, and a son of the soil whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
On behalf of the government and people of Seychelles, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fellow artists, and all who were touched by his music.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his voice continue to echo through the heart of our nation for generations to come.
