On this UN Public Service Day, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you who serves our nation with dedication, integrity, and resilience.
I am especially grateful to those public officers who go above and beyond – who work with heart, dedication, and a genuine love for their job. Your quiet sacrifices, your long hours, and your unwavering commitment to service do not go unnoticed. You represent the very best of what our public service stands for.
This year’s theme – “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future” – is a timely call to action. As we approach the final stretch towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, it is clear that the effectiveness, agility, and commitment of our public service will be the key to our success.
Public officers are the backbone of national development. From education and health to infrastructure and environmental protection, it is through your hands, your decisions, and your innovation that we deliver meaningful progress to our people. In a world of constant change, our public service must remain responsive, forward-thinking, and centred on the needs of every citizen – leaving no one behind.
Today, I challenge all of you to reflect on how we can do better, move faster, and collaborate more closely across institutions to transform services and ensure a sustainable future for our islands. This is not only a matter of good governance – it is our shared responsibility to future generations.
To accelerate progress, we must also be prepared to confront and remove unnecessary bureaucracy that delays service delivery, frustrates citizens, and hinders innovation. Streamlining procedures, simplifying processes, and cutting red tape must be part of our daily mission to make the public service more efficient, agile, and people-focused.
As your President, I remain fully committed to supporting reforms and innovations that strengthen our institutions, empower our workforce, and enhance the quality and impact of service delivery across the public sector.
Let us embrace this pivotal moment with courage and conviction. Together, let us work towards a public service that is not only efficient and inclusive, but also bold in reform, trusted by the public, and capable of delivering lasting change.
