Message from President Danny Faure
On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day
15 March 2019
World Consumer Rights Day is an annual occasion to raise awareness about consumer rights and needs. All of us are consumers. All of us deserve to be protected against market abuses and social injustices. Commemorating World Consumer Rights Day allows us to demand that our rights as consumer are respected.
The Fair Trading Commission in Seychelles is an independent government body that is custodian of the Consumer Protection Act 2010. It aims to protect the interests of consumers, and promote competition and fair trade in Seychelles to benefit both consumers and businesses.
If consumers are offered inferior products, if prices are too high, if the consumer is unable to make an informed choice, then it is the national interest that suffers. A consumer’s money is wasted, and health and safety may be threatened. This year, FTC is putting emphasis on “Bon marse I kapab kout ser”, and “pran ou responsabilite”, highlighting the roles and responsibility all of us have.
FTC has organised many activities to highlight and promote the World Consumer Rights Day. This serves as an important message for consumers to be aware of their rights and responsibilities in procuring goods or services.
Government and the Fair-Trading Commission remain committed to work alongside all stakeholders to actively enforce the Consumer Protection Act 2010 and ensure that the rights of all consumers are protected.
