President Ramkalawan Visits Site of Proposed Day Care Centre at Souvenir, La Misère

President Wavel Ramkalawan visited the proposed site for a new Day Care Centre at Souvenir, La Misère this afternoon, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing community-based services and expanding access to quality early childhood care and development.

The Head of State was accompanied by the Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mrs. Rose-Marie Hoareau; the Minister for Lands and Housing, Mr. Billy Rangasamy; the Member of the National Assembly for Grand Anse; the Principal Secretary for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Kevin Perine; the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency (SIA), Mr. Jitesh Shah; along with technical teams and other key stakeholders involved in the planning and implementation of the project.

During the visit, President Ramkalawan emphasized the strategic significance of the centre as an investment in the social wellbeing of the La Misère community. He highlighted the centre’s dual role in supporting working parents and nurturing young children in a safe, accessible environment.

“This Day Care Centre will not only ease the burden on families who are seeking quality childcare services close to home but will also contribute to the holistic development of our youngest citizens,” the President stated. “It is through such projects that we continue to empower our communities and lay strong foundations for future generations.”

The President called on all relevant agencies to collaborate closely to ensure that the project is launched without delay, completed on schedule, and delivered to the highest possible standards.

The proposed Day Care Centre is part of a nationwide initiative to upgrade early childhood infrastructure, aimed at guaranteeing equal access to safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate care for all Seychellois children.
