President Wavel Ramkalawan conducted a site visit to the Land Bank Project in Anse Royale on Thursday morning to assess the progress made and to review the way forward for the ongoing housing and land development initiative.
The project, awarded to Turnkey Solutions and launched in January 2024, was initially scheduled for completion in December 2024. However, delays due to adverse weather conditions and site challenges have shifted the revised completion date to December 2025.
Originallyplanned to accommodate 72 plots, the project design has since been adjusted to maximize infrastructure investment and integrate two additional housing developments – a condominium project and a mid-range condominium project. As a result, the number of plots has been revised to 54.
With a total contract value of SCR 22.9 million, the project has so far expended SCR 12.5 million. Survey works to excise the plots will commence shortly, with allocation of plots expected by January 2026.
The Ministry of Lands and Housing confirmed that demand for land remains high, with 437 applicants currently on the land bank list (391 on Mahé, 38 on Praslin, and 8 on La Digue). Nationwide, projects in various stages of implementation are expected to deliver approximately 250 plots during 2025–2026. Planning is also underway for a further 170 plots in 2027–2028, subject to approval in the upcoming budget cycle.
Accompanying President Ramkalawan on the visit were the Minister for Land and Housing, Mr. Billy Rangasamy, the Principal Secretary for Lands, Mr. Denis Barbe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency, Mr. Jitesh Shah, and other senior officials from the Ministry.
President Ramkalawan reiterated his government’s strong commitment to accelerating land and housing projects across the country in order to address the longstanding needs of Seychellois families. He expressed appreciation to the MLH team and technicians for the infrastructure and utilities completed so far and emphasized the importance of expediting the works to ensure applicants are allocated their plots within the shortest possible timeframe.
