A high-level delegation from the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the Indian Ocean (CEDOI), led by Bishop Alain Harel, paid a courtesy visit on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House,Thursday morning. The engagement took place following the conclusion of the regional Episcopal Conference, which convened Catholic Church leaders from across the Indian Ocean region.
President Ramkalawan warmly welcomed the delegation, reaffirming his administration's commitment to strengthening collaborative partnerships with the Catholic Church in areas of mutual interest and community development. The President emphasized the government's appreciation for the Church's continued contribution to national progress and social welfare.
Bishop Harel expressed gratitude for the President's warm hospitality and ongoing support for the Church's mission throughout the region. During their comprehensive discussions, the episcopal leaders outlined the Church's dedication to addressing critical societal challenges, including healthcare, educational advancement, and substance abuse prevention, issues that significantly impact families across the Indian Ocean island nations.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, Father Alain Romaine, Secretary General of CEDOI, articulated the Church's comprehensive vision for both spiritual enrichment and social advancement throughout the region. "This meeting with President Ramkalawan provided an opportunity to review the evolving social and moral landscape affecting families across our island nations," Father Romaine stated.
The distinguished delegation comprised Cardinal Maurice Piat, Bishop Jean Michel Durhone, and Father Georgy Kenny from the Diocese of Port Louis, Mauritius, Bishop Michel Moura from the Apostolic Vicariate of Rodrigues, and Father Eric Leon, Vicar General of the Diocese of Victoria.
