President Wavel Ramkalawan Pays Final Respects to His Holiness Pope Francis

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Linda Ramkalawan, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde, travelled to Vatican City to pay the nation’s final respects to His Holiness Pope Francis, following his passing.

The Seychellois delegation joined world leaders, dignitaries, and members of the global Catholic community for the solemn funeral ceremony held at St. Peter’s Basilica. During this moment of mourning, President Ramkalawan once again conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the people and Government of Seychelles to the Holy See, honouring the extraordinary legacy of Pope Francis as a beacon of compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to peace, social justice, and humanity.

President Ramkalawan paid tribute to the late Pontiff’s profound spiritual leadership, highlighting how his teachings and actions transcended borders and inspired millions across the world, including the faithful in Seychelles. 

The President reaffirmed Seychelles' solidarity with the Catholic community worldwide and expressed gratitude for the invaluable spiritual guidance Pope Francis offered throughout his pontificate.

Seychelles stands united in prayer, remembrance, and reflection during this time of profound loss.
