President Wavel Ramkalawan Inspects Renovation Works at Roche Caiman National Sports Complex Roche Caiman, Seychelles

President Wavel Ramkalawan on Thursday led a high-level delegation on an inspection tour of the Roche Caiman National Sports Complex, where significant renovation and infrastructure development works are currently underway. The visit underscores the government’s sustained commitment to strengthening the sports sector and ensuring Seychelles’ preparedness to host major international sporting events.

The President’s visit centred on facilities undergoing upgrades in anticipation of two major upcoming competitions: the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, slated for early next month, and the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) Games, scheduled for August.

During the tour, the delegation visited several key venues currently being refurbished, including the Palais des Sports, Tennis Courts, Stade Linite Stadium, and the NSC Hall. These enhancements are designed to boost capacity, improve safety, and ensure compliance with international standards.

A focal point of the visit was the newly constructed beach soccer arena, the primary venue for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025. President Ramkalawan expressed satisfaction with the progress made, remarking that the arena’s contemporary design and construction quality would provide a lasting legacy for beach soccer in Seychelles.

Speaking after the tour, the President highlighted the broader significance of investing in sports infrastructure:

“The visit is a testament to our government’s dedication to uplifting the standard of sports in our country. These upgrades will not only benefit the events we are preparing for, but also serve our local athletes and communities in the long term,” said President Ramkalawan.

He further commended the efforts of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family, the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency, local contractors, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Committee, and all stakeholders for their dedication to delivering the projects on time and to high standards.

The delegation included government ministers, Members of the National Assembly serving on the Media, Youth, Sports and Culture Committee, senior officials, representatives from the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency, National Sports Council, Parlement Régional des Jeunes de l’Indianoceanie, consultants, technicians, members of the Local Organizing Committees, and other key partners involved in the projects.

Today’s inspection marks a significant milestone in the nation’s preparations, reinforcing confidence in Seychelles’ capacity to stage world-class sporting events and further positioning sports tourism as a vital pillar of national development.
