President Wavel Ramkalawan led a high-level delegation to Praslin today, accompanied by Vice-President Ahmed Afif and relevant ministers, to assess key challenges affecting the island’s residents. The visit included engagements with crucial institutions and service providers in the Grand Anse Praslin and Baie St. Anne districts, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving essential services and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
The delegation visited several key facilities integral to the daily lives of Praslin’s community, including:
1. Agriculture Store, Grand Anse Praslin – The President addressed concerns regarding the availability and affordability of agricultural supplies, procurement challenges, and the need for greater awareness regarding the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Farmers highlighted supply chain issues and pricing difficulties, and the government reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to essential resources vital for food security and economic sustainability.
2. Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) Office, Grand Anse Praslin – Discussions focused on enhancing tax collection efficiency, simplifying processes for businesses and individuals, and expanding digital services to improve accessibility and streamline tax-related assistance.
3. Seychelles Licensing Authority (SLA), Grand Anse Praslin – The delegation engaged with SLA staff to tackle licensing challenges, including processing delays and bureaucratic inefficiencies. Longstanding cases were addressed, and a new action plan was established to expedite processes. The President emphasized the government’s priority to simplify these procedures, fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth.
4. Immigration Office, Grand Anse Praslin – Discussions centered on improving immigration processing to ensure citizens receive timely and efficient services. A major challenge identified was space constraints. To address this, a new location has been secured to house both the Immigration and Civil Status offices under one roof.
5. Agency for Social Protection Office, Grand Anse Praslin – Key welfare service concerns were discussed, with a focus on improving response times and ensuring administrative efficiency to better serve the community.
6. Baie St. Anne Hospital – Healthcare challenges were reviewed, including staffing shortages, medical service enhancements, and infrastructure upgrades. The President reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare on Praslin by reinforcing medical personnel and upgrading essential equipment.
7. Cancer Concern Association of Praslin – Accompanied by association members, the President visited the proposed site for a hospice dedicated to Praslin cancer patients, located near Baie St. Anne Hospital. The visit provided a firsthand assessment of the site and space requirements for the project.
Throughout the visit, the President engaged directly with employees and service providers, acknowledging their concerns and frustrations. The government pledged to implement practical solutions focusing on efficiency, accessibility, and service delivery.
President Ramkalawan reiterated the administration’s commitment to fostering development on Praslin, ensuring residents receive the support they need. Following the visit, an action plan will be established to address the concerns raised, with regular follow-ups to monitor progress and implementation.
The government extends its gratitude to the respective departments and institutions for their hospitality and participation in these discussions. It reaffirms its dedication to collaborating closely with local authorities and stakeholders to build a stronger and more resilient Praslin.
