President Wavel Ramkalawan accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan and Vice President Ahmed Afif presided over the 38th National Sports Awards ceremony, held last night at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort. In the highlight of the evening, President Ramkalawan had the honour of presenting the prestigious awards to bodybuilding champion Wallace Dorasamy and swimmer Aaliyah Palestrini, who were named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year 2024, respectively.
The esteemed ceremony recognized 80 outstanding recipients across various categories, including athletes, coaches, officials, and schools. Special accolades were awarded to the top five young athletes and top five professional athletes, acknowledging both emerging talent and elite sporting excellence in Seychelles.
In his address, National Sports Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Arrisol stated, "the sporting event serves as a testament to unwavering dedication, diligent effort, and fervent passion for those who have gone above and beyond in the pursuit of athletic greatness.” He also unveiled the official logo for the upcoming CJSOI Games, which will take place in Seychelles this August under the theme Positivite toulezour.
Minister for Youth, Sport, and Family Marie-Celine Zialor congratulated all nominees, describing the 2024 awards as "a celebration in recognition of hard work, commitment, and dedication towards their individual sport." She also expressed gratitude for the continued support of the government and sponsors in fostering a positive sporting culture.
The evening was further enlivened by captivating performances from popular artists and dance groups, seamlessly blending athletic achievement with artistic expression.
As a flagship event in Seychelles' sporting calendar, the National Sports Awards continue to honour excellence and inspire the nation's athletes to reach new heights.
