The Seychelles Hospital marked its centennial anniversary with a grand ceremony and health fair yesterday evening, celebrating a century of service to the nation’s healthcare system. The event, graced by President Wavel Ramkalawan and First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, highlighted the institution's legacy and commitment to the future of healthcare.

A focal point of the evening was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by President Ramkalawan and Health Minister Peggy Vidot, paying tribute to the contributions of past, present, and future healthcare professionals. The ceremony also introduced "Santenn," a monument symbolizing care, shelter, and excellence in healthcare, embodying the hospital’s role as a sanctuary for all. Additionally, a symbolic cornerstone was revealed, underscoring the government’s pledge to construct a modern Seychelles Hospital.

In her opening remarks, Minister Vidot lauded the resilience of the hospital and its staff over the past century, describing it as "a pillar of support and a beacon of hope for the future." She honoured the dedication of healthcare workers, both past and present, and urged them to embrace innovation and strive for excellence in delivering care.

President Ramkalawan, addressing attendees, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering dedication of healthcare workers across all roles. Reflecting on the hospital’s historical significance, he announced the government’s commitment to building a new, state-of-the-art facility. "Today we are celebrating dedication, patience, and compassion. It is fitting that in this centennial year, we have already taken the decision to build a new hospital that will take us into the next 100 years," he said.

The festivities included a health fair and an exhibition chronicling the hospital’s journey through the decades, showcasing major milestones and advancements in medical care. Cultural performances, including recitals and songs, underscored the hospital’s deep connection to the community.

The landmark event brought together government officials, including the Cabinet of Ministers and members of the National Assembly, alongside current and former healthcare workers, dignitaries, and members of the public. It served as a moment of reflection on the hospital’s vital role in shaping the nation’s healthcare system and its enduring promise of service to the people.
