In a historic event, President Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed members of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) to State House for a historic first youth dialogue. The meeting, held this morning, marked a significant milestone in fostering direct engagement between the nation’s highest office and its young leaders.
In his opening remarks, President Ramkalawan expressed his honour in hosting the SNYA members for this groundbreaking exchange. He emphasized the importance of youth involvement in shaping the future of Seychelles, setting a new precedent for open dialogue on key national issues.
The interactive session provided assembly members the opportunity to discuss an array of pressing topics with the President, including education, social issues, mental health, technology, and infrastructure. SNYA Speaker, Young Honorable Stanio Arissol, addressed the assembly on behalf of the 19th cohort, thanking the President for this invaluable platform to voice the concerns and aspirations of the youth. Arissol encouraged his peers to make full use of the occasion to seek clarification and insights on matters impacting young people across the nation. He further advocated for this dialogue to become a tradition for future SNYA cohorts.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Speaker Arissol conveyed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage directly with the President, stating, “This sitting provided us with a unique opportunity to voice out the concerns of the youth directly to the Head of State.” He expressed optimism that their insights would be considered in future policy decisions.
The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to involving young voices in national development and policy discussions.
Also present were the Minister for Youth, Sports, and Family, Mrs. Marie-Celine Zialor; Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles National Youth Council, Mr. Albert Duncan; and representatives from the SNYA Secretariat.
