He holds a Master's Degree in Law from the University of Colombo and is a qualified Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, a Barrister and Solicitor in Fiji, and an Accredited Mediator at the Singapore Mediation Centre. His 24-year career spans both civil and criminal law, including roles in the judiciary, public prosecution, and private practice across multiple jurisdictions. Notably, he has served as a Judge of the Court of Appeal and High Court of Fiji, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (Fiji), Head of the Legal Department of the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption, and State Counsel (civil division) in Sri Lanka’s Attorney General’s Department. In his first remarks to the press, Mr. Perera expressed his deep honour at being entrusted with the role. He emphasized that his extensive experience would allow him to effectively fulfill his duties. “I pledge that, together with my team, I will contribute to the best of my abilities to ensure that the rule of law in this beautiful country is upheld. Together, we shall ensure that guilt does not escape, nor the innocent suffer,” he affirmed. He also outlined plans to strengthen the prosecutorial and investigative teams, equipping them with the skills necessary to meet the challenges ahead.
Mr. Perera succeeds Mr. Frank Ally, who served as Attorney General for the past seven years. President Ramkalawan expressed his gratitude to Mr. Ally for his dedicated service and wished him the very best in his future endeavours.
