In a ceremony held this morning at State House, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, officially appointed Mr. Mike Tirant as the new Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS).

Mr. Tirant, a seasoned finance professional with nearly two decades of experience, joined CBS in 2004 after earning a BA (Hons) in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, UK. He furthered his education with a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Leicester, UK, in 2010. His career at CBS has been marked by consistent advancement, starting as an Assistant Accountant and progressing to Director of Banking, Currency, and Financial Reporting in January 2011. By January 2013, he had assumed the role of Head of the Banking Services Division.

During the appointment ceremony, President Ramkalawan congratulated Mr. Tirant on his new role, assuring him of the government’s full support as he takes on his responsibilities. The President expressed his confidence in Mr. Tirant’s capabilities, stating, “"I believe you have all the ability and support at the disposition of CBS and the nation, so give your best with all devotion."

Following the ceremony, Mr. Tirant spoke to the press, aligning his appointment with the broader vision of the government and the Central Bank to empower young professionals. "Being entirely run by a group of Seychellois professionals, it is the vision of the institution to encourage and continuously develop young professionals. We call upon other young professionals to join and contribute to the development of the country" he stated.

The ceremony was attended by key figures including the Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, Mrs. Caroline Abel, CBS Board Director Dr. Sherley Marie and members of Mr. Tirant’s family.

This appointment highlights CBS's ongoing commitment to fostering local talent and supporting professional growth within the institution.
