The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed the two officers who were injured during the 7th December explosion whilst in the line of duty, for a courtesy call this morning at State House. Sub-Inspector Nadine Atala and Police Constable Pierre Adelaide were accompanied by the Minister for Internal Affairs, Mr. Errol Fonseka, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ted Barbe and the Head of their Unit for Response Services, Superintendent Jean Paul Ernesta.

In welcoming them to State House, President Ramkalawan commended the two officers for their bravery and determination to continue serving their country.

“Today on behalf of Seychelles and on my personal behalf, I would like to formally say congratulations for your acts of bravery and dedication. When the call of duty came, despite sensing danger you pursued head-on without fear or reservations. Your resilience and strength whilst putting yourselves at risk are admirable. The country salutes you and we are grateful you are both regaining your health and have been able resume your respective duties. It take a lot of courage as frontline officers, often in the line of danger but your quick thinking during the chaos of the explosion, saved your lives and the lives of others. Once again thank you for your courage and service to our nation,” said President Ramkalawan.

The meeting with the President was an opportunity for SI Atala and PC Adelaide to share with the Head of State, their experience during the early hours of 7 December 2023, how their recovery process has been so far as well the atmosphere since resuming work.

Speaking to the press after the courtesy call, SI Atala and PC Adelaide said they are grateful to God to still be alive. They shared a message for their fellow Police Officers on the force urging them to remain motivated and focused in all that they do and to continue to take their duties seriously.
