President Ramkalawan arrives in South Korea for the Korea-Africa Summit

Seoul, Korea Monday 03 June 2024: The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Linda Ramkalawan and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegone arrived in Seoul, South Korea for the first Korea-Africa Summit 2024 earlier this afternoon. 

President Ramkalawan was welcomed at the Icheon International Airport by the Special Representative of the Republic of Korea, Ambassador Kang Seokhee and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in the Republic of Korea, Mr. Dong Jeong. Also part of the welcoming party was the Seychelles Resident Ambassador in Beijing, China accredited to Japan and South Korea, Ambassador Anne Lafortune. 

Other members of the Seychelles delegation attending the Korea-Africa summit includes the Designated Minister, Minister for Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mr. Jean-Francois Ferrari, the Attaché in the Embassy of the Republic of Seychelles in Beijing/ Director in the Department of Tourism, Mr. Jean-Luc Lai-Lam, Senior Economist, National Planning Department, Ms. Maryana Labonte and Second Secretary/ Desk Officer for the Republic of Korea, Ms Ingrid Labrosse. 

Taking place under the theme “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity,” the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit aims to elevate cooperation between Korea and Africa by bringing together heads of state and international organizations from Africa and key figures from Korean government communities. 

President Ramkalawan will address the summit during the Heads of State Plenary Segment of the Conference tomorrow, Tuesday 4 June 2024.
