President Ramkalawan attended UniSey 2023 Graduation Ceremony

The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan who is also the Chancellor of the University of Seychelles (UNISEY), attended the 2023 graduation ceremony of students who have successfully completed their studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate degree levels. The ceremony was held this afternoon at the University of Seychelles (UniSey) auditorium, Anse Royale.

A total of one hundred and forty-two students graduated and received their Certificate of Achievement and Certificate of Recognition from the University of Seychelles. They studied courses offered by the UniSey itself or in partnership with the University of London, l’Université de a La Reunion, University of Mauritius, and University of West of Scotland. The courses included; Certificate in General Management, Certificate in Public Procurement, Diploma in General Management, Diploma in Journalism, Bachelor of Education in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Social Work, Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems, Licence de Français, Bachelor of Science (Honours) Food Safety and Environmental Health, Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, Diploma of Higher Education in Law, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Administration with Financial Services, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Administration with Human Resource Management, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Administration with International Business, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Administration with Marketing, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Environmental Science, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Human Resources Management, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with International Business, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Marketing, Bachelor of Arts in Law, Bachelor of Laws, Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration, Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration, and Master in Business Administration.

The President had the honour to present the best performers with the Chancellor’s Special Recognition Award. This recognition represents the awardees’ excellent higher education journey and their outstanding achievements at UniSey. Those awarded were Vanessa Lucas, Kaveyar Sekar, Emelyn Desir, Larrisha Serret, Mikaela Valmont, Britney Roucou, Sharon Meriton-Jean, Lilia Nibourette, Bergitta Labonte, Debra Stravens, and Federika Confait-Poussou.

President Ramkalawan also officially launched the University of Seychelles 15th Anniversary Logo and presented a prize to the Dean on behalf of Ned Souris who designed the logo.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Ms. Joëlle Perreau, said that today is a day of celebration, reflection, and anticipation as they recognised the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and sacrifice of the outstanding graduates. 

“It is a proud moment, not just for our graduates but for the entire university community. I am filled with great pride as I look out at this sea of accomplished individuals who have worked tirelessly to reach this significant milestone in their lives. Today, we gather to honour their incredible achievements. They have exhibited unwavering determination, passion, and intellect throughout their academic journey,” said Vice-Chancellor Perreau.

She continued, “To the graduating class of 2023, I extend my heartfelt congratulations. Your journey to this moment has been one of growth, discovery, and transformation. You have faced numerous challenges, overcome obstacles, and demonstrated exceptional resilience in pursuing knowledge and personal development. Your commitment to learning, critical thinking, and innovation has enriched your lives and contributed to our university's academic and cultural fabric.”

In 2022, the University of Seychelles introduced a Certificate of Appreciation for all members of the UniSey Student Council, who are graduating. Amongst the 2023 cohort, seventeen graduates served the Council, as president or members.

 
Ms. Alisha Belle received the S4S Colleen Morel Environmental Science Achievement Award. As per previous graduations, this award is given to a Seychellois student graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science at the University of Seychelles each year. 
During the ceremony, sixteen graduates received awards for having achieved a First Class within their respective fields of study, at undergraduate degree level.

 
As for the Dean’s Award, Vanessa Lucas was awarded from the Faculty of Arts and Social Development, whilst Shamira Sally received the award from the Faculty of Business and Sustainable Development.
