Vice President Ahmed Afif chairs the meeting of the Seychelles National Multi-stakeholder Committee in line with the Open Government Partnership initiative

Vice President Ahmed Afif chaired the first meeting of the new Seychelles National Multi-Stakeholder Committee for the Open Government Partnership (OGP) at State House.

The main role of the Committee is to coordinate the development of the second country National Action Plan in line with Seychelles’ membership commitment to OGP.  The Committee is also responsible for monitoring the implementation of the action plan; proactively support reforms that go beyond the OGP process; promote openness in innovative ways; support initiatives that work in parallel to the action plan; participate in peer learning opportunities within the country and internationally; and, mobilize and sustain diverse resources.

The second National Action Plan, which will be launched in December 2023, will be co-created through collaboration between Government, civil society and other stakeholders. The action plan will incorporate commitments to create a more inclusive, participatory and transparent government.

The Open Government Partnership which was launched in 2011, is a gathering of government reformers and civil society leaders to create action plans that make governments more inclusive, responsive, and accountable.

Seychelles joined the Open Government Partnership in 2018 and implemented its first National Action Plan between 2019 and 2021.  Seychelles is one of the 76 countries which make up the OGP global platform.

The National Multi-Stakeholder Committee which is a requirement of the Open Government Partnership is made up of representatives from the civil society and Government namely the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles; the Public Service Bureau; the Information Commission; the Department of Information Communication Technology; Youth Representative; the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade; Transparency Initiative Seychelles, Fisheries Transparency Initiative and the Seychelles Island Foundation.  The Committee is being hosted by the Cabinet Affairs Office.

A technical team from the OGP Secretariat in Kenya will visit Seychelles in late October to support the co-creation process.
