President Ramkalawan received the IMF Executive Director at the State House

The Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Chang Huh, paid a courtesy visit to President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning. Mr. Huh and his delegation are in Seychelles to conduct the second review of the current IMF programme and the extended fund facility. To note, the Seychelles Government undertook the reform economic programme for 30 months which will end in June next year.

President Ramkalawan welcomed Mr. Huh and his delegation to Seychelles and expressed his gratitude for the support and advice the IMF team is giving the country in line with its economic recovery. The President underlined the Government’s continued commitment to the programme and to ensuring fiscal sustainability and macroeconomic stability.

During the discussion, Mr. Huh commended the achievements of Seychelles during the implementation of the reform programme. He underlined how the IMF appreciated such accomplishments which he highlighted was not easy, but Seychelles surpassed such expectations as a small developing country. The meeting was also an opportunity for Mr. Huh to further advised the President, whereby they discussed Seychelles' position in the international arena and how important it is for the country to keep close contact with international institutions to enhance its international credibility.

Speaking to the local press after he met with the President, Mr. Huh, said that among the small developing countries, the Government of Seychelles stands as an exemplary case. He noted the efficiency and capacity of the Government, especially during such a difficult moment, and that the IMF will continue to work closely with Seychelles.

Also present for the courtesy call at State House was the Minister for Finance, National Planning, and Trade, Mr, Naadir Hassan, and the Governor of the Central Bank, Miss Caroline Abel.
