President Ramkalawan receives the new Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force

The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, received the Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), H.E. Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa for a courtesy call at State House yesterday afternoon. Brigadier General Fayisa is on an official visit to Seychelles where he held various meetings with local authorities.

The President welcomed him and commended him for taking the leadership of such an important regional organisation addressing peace and security amongst neighbouring African nations, which has become a volatile region. With the new and emerging maritime threats that are on the rise around the Horn of Africa and in the Indian Ocean, the President underlined the pivotal role each member states can play in matters of peace and security.

“Welcome to our shores and it is my sincere wish that your visit will further solidify our bonds of cooperation. Rest assured of my Government’s unwavering support in consolidating the existing excitement relations,” said President Ramkalawan.

On his part, Brigadier General Fayisa first and foremost commended the President and Seychelles for the peaceful transition of power following the October 2021.  As an organisation which have existed for many years, he took the opportunity to brief the Head of State on their various mission and projects being implemented.

Also present for the meeting were the Chief of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave and Director-General Regional Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Steve Lalande and other Department of Foreign Affairs officials.

Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa was accompanied by Head of Administration and Finance in the directorate of EASF, Ms. Lina Hoareau, as well as Information Manager for EASF and Mr. Jules Hoareau.
