President Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed the United Nations Resident Coordinator, H.E Mrs Christine N. Umutoni for a courtesy call at State House this morning. This is the first mission of H.E Mrs. Umutoni since the election of the new administration and was accompanied by UN agencies WHO and UNAIDs and staff members of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office.
President Ramkalawan extended a warm welcome to H.E Mrs. Christine N. Umutoni and her delegation whilst conveying appreciation of the long-standing strategic partnership between the United Nations and Seychelles and the significant role it plays in support of country's further development.
During discussions, H.E Mrs Umutoni congratulated the Seychelles for having conducted free and fair elections as well as for the exemplary and peaceful transition of power.
The UN also congratulated the government for having reached a high number of vaccinated populations, ranking number one in Africa as well as its various efforts in not only protecting the population but in also ensuring the economic activity resumes for the better of the country and its people.
H.E Mrs. Umutoni also announced that UN Resident Coordinator’s Liaison Office will be officially opened and this will further strengthen the rapport between Seychelles and UN through more regular visits.
Also present were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde and the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave along with Department of Foreign Affairs officials.
Members of the UN agencies included WHO Representative, Dr Teniin Gakuruh and UNAIDs Country Director, Dr Jude Padayachy, CEO of the National Aids Council, Dr Anne Gabriel and staff member of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, Mr Alexander Mancham.
