President Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed the Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, Prof. Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher at State House yesterday afternoon.
He was accompanied to State House by his wife Prof. Dr. Christine Schirrmacher, a professor of Islamic Studies at Bonn University and leading the Interreligious programme of the World Evangelical Alliance, and his son David Schirrmacher, a business man residing in Dublin.
The World Evangelical Alliance represents 600 million Protestants worldwide, of which 10% of Seychellois population are a member of the Alliance. Currently visiting Seychelles from 14 to 20 October, the meeting with President Ramkalawan who is also an Anglican Priest, was an opportunity to exchange views of the current religious landscape in the Seychelles and in the world in general.
During discussions Prof. Schirrmacher commended Seychelles for the extensive freedom of worship that exist in Seychelles where numerous denominations co-exist peace-fully and in tolerance.
President Ramkalawan wished Prof. Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher and his family blessings in their Ministry as well as fruitful deliberations during their mission in Seychelles.
