The President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan received retiree Dr. Marina Confait at State House this morning.
President Ramkalawan conveyed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Confait for the invaluable contributions, for discharging her duties with professionalism and her loyal service over the many years that she worked for the Government. Though retired, the President expressed his wish that she offers her experience and knowledge for the greater good of the country.
The meeting was an opportunity for Dr Confait to share her experience, key achievements, future plans as well as propositions that may help as the country progresses in its development.
Dr. Marina Confait is a specialist in Doctoral Education and Human Resources Development. She started her career in the public service in January 1977 as a secondary school teacher. From there, she held several middle management and senior positions in Different Ministries and Department.
Among the various positions held, Dr. Confait served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Human Resources Development Council (NHRDC), the Principal Secretary of the Employment Department responsible for the formulation and review of employment legislation and policies, Principal Secretary in the Office of the Designated Minister, responsible for the coordination of projects in the following portfolios: Local Government; Youths, Sports, Culture; and Risk and Disaster Management.
Dr. Confait was also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles. Furthermore, throughout her career, served on numerous high-level Committees and Corporate Boards in the capacity of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson or Member. For eight years, she chaired the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI); an international of 10 Member States, Management Training Institute, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. She also chaired the National Resource Development Council and was a Member of Tertiary Education Commission.
She was appointed Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs on 1st February 2019, a post she held until her retirement.
