President Danny Faure has assented to the Mental Health Care Act, 2020, which was passed by the National Assembly on 22nd July 2020.

Since Seychelles ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on 2nd October, 2009, there was a necessity to review the Mental Health Act 2006 and make it fully compliant with the UN Convention.

The new Mental Health Care Act, 2020, is now more based on human rights principles and provides a legal framework to address access to care, rehabilitation, and integration into the community, prevention of discrimination, and promotion of mental health and wellbeing.
